Craig Kimbrel Becomes 8th Pitcher To Earn 400 Saves

May 27, 2023 1:23 AM

Craig Kimbrel had a feeling this would be a special night, so he wanted about 30 to 40 family members and friends from Alabama to come watch him reach a rare milestone.

The hard-throwing closer became the eighth pitcher in major league history to earn 400 saves as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 6-4 on Friday.

"I'm happy it was here in Atlanta," said Kimbrel, who began his career with the Braves. "I am happy the majority of my family was here to see it. Getting to take it in and enjoy it with them is great."

Trea Turner Booed By Fans, Hits Game Tying Homer In 9th

May 25, 2023 2:27 AM

Trea Turner had a good reason to be able to handle the Philly boos aimed at the scuffling shortstop after chasing two balls in the dirt and striking out in the seventh inning.

Philly fans can't bring the heat like mom can from home.

"She told me today she was booing me," Turner said with a laugh.

Donna Turner might fit in faster among Phillies fans than Turner has with the team in his first season in the Philadelphia lineup.

Turner eventually made mom proud when he tied Wednesday's game with a two-run homer in the ninth inning, and Alec Bohm hit the winning single in the 10th to rally the Phillies from five runs down in a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Bryce Harper Ejected For Charging Rockies' Dugout

May 15, 2023 1:07 AM

Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper was ejected from Sunday's 4-0 loss at Colorado after charging at the Rockies' dugout following the last out of the top of the seventh inning, setting off an altercation that cleared both teams' benches and bullpens.

Harper appeared to respond to Colorado reliever Jake Bird, who clapped a hand against his glove and said something toward the Philadelphia dugout.

"I get emotion," Harper said. "I understand getting fired up for an inning and stuff like that. But once you make it about a team or make it about yourself and the other team, that's when I've kind of got a problem with it."

Chris Sale Has Stellar Performance, Striking Out Five In Win

May 1, 2023 1:22 AM

Chris Sale didn’t get any strikeouts in his last start, a career first in a non-injury related outing.

Six days later, Sale struck back by turning in a stellar performance against the Guardians that should quell some of the concerns about his inconsistency this season, at least until he takes the ball next on Friday night in Philadelphia.

Achieving season highs in innings (6 1/3) and pitches (98), Sale limited Cleveland to three hits and one run, walking none and striking out five to lead his Red Sox to a 7-1 victory in a soggy Sunday rubber match of a three-game series at Fenway.
